The Memorial Day in the United States honors the military men and women of America who have lost their lives on duty on their country. This is a vacation that will be observed last Monday in May. It also marks the beginning of summer in the USA because it is a time when the weather is warmer and the schools end up for the year.
For Filipinos who had relatives who fought next to the Americans during World War II, it is a time to remember our own brave men and women who jeopardized their lives to save America at war. Personally, this touches me deeply and I wrote about the participation of the family of my own family in my recent history and food memoirs Every ounce of courage: the considerations of a daughter about the bravery of her mother. This is also a food memoir that contains 24 Filipino recipes from my mother and my grandmother, which were part of our family memories.
Nowadays, many Americans are not just about memory on this long weekend, it is a time to meet family and friends, celebrate the grill for the barbecue season and start the grill.
What to cook for the Memorial Day Weekend:
If you organize a Barbecue Cookout or invited to a neighborhood party on the commemoration day or stay at home with the family, you will find some classic recipe ideas here to whip. These are guaranteed to make party geasers.
Devilish eggs with Longanisa : These make great starters. They are the classic fabric eggs or what Filipinos Relyenong Itlog calls, but it was particularly important with the strain on crumbled longanisa, healed, sweet pork swour. Click on prescription Here.
Shrimp gambas: Also known as Gambas Al Ajillo, is a Spanish-sea fruits that is a popular Philippine starter. The shrimp are fried in an extra virgin olive oil, garlic and sweet tomato sauces. This cooks quickly and quickly and makes an elegant starter, one side or even a main course. Click on prescription Here.
Filipino pork grille: These grilled pork barbecues on skewers are every time we organize a party, a favorite or if I bring it to Potlucks. What makes this difficult to resist is the marinade, which is a sweet, slightly spicy mixture of ingredients. Now start marinating them. And make a double charge. You will see why something grilled after the grill. Not a single essay remains. Click for the recipe on the blog Here.
Apart from the recipe in this blog this is here Grilled pig grill skewers I developed Simply recipes.
Macaroni salad with pineapple: Our family calls this “Makoni salad of Tita Pat” because he was always on the menu of our favorite aunt when she organized a party. This is a macaronic salad in the Filipino style with chicken and pineapple. It is sweet and hearty at the same time. It is a faster, slightly chilled salad for summer or even all year round as a side to these grills or roast. Click on prescription here.
Sinaw: A classic Filipino starter made of grilled pigeon, marinated in Patis (fish sauce), garlic and calamansi. Then pour a sauce vinegar with ginger, onions and chilli after grilling. Serve as a starter, page or main course with rice. Click on prescription Here.
Vegetable ice cream wraps with peanut sauce: No cooking is required for this simple vegetable dish. Simply fill the sensitive, pre -soaked Vietnamese travel packaging with thinly cut different vegetables. Roll, cut and serve the vegetable rolls in a hearty side of the peanut sauce. Click on prescription here.
Veetarian pancit: What is a Filipino assembly without a pancit that can feed so many? I converted the classic pasta dish into a general version. It is a fundamental roast mucus that is easily crowned with cabbage, carrots, green beans, celery, mushrooms and tofu. This lasts with hearty patis (fish sauce) and Calamansi or lemon everywhere. This is the type of noodle entrée that can be reduced and add ingredients with increasing guest list. Click on Blog recipe Here. Pancit Bihon pasta recipe Simply recipes. Click here.
Which desserts bring for Potluck:
The best thing about desserts, apart from the fact that you are wonderful, is that you can make some in the front. Or you can make them quick shortly before serving.
coconut Leche Flan : A Filipino party is not complete for dessert without classic lechs. Make this ahead and cool down to serving. My recipe consists of a rich, creamy pudding, which is organized with coconut taste. Individual flange slices are crowned with sweet Macapuno strings, which makes it an excellently decadent and yet simple dessert. Click on prescription Here.
Ube ice: This recipe for the classic Filipino UBE-Purple-Yam ice cream only needs three ingredients and heavy whipped cream, sweetened condensed milk and the UBE aroma. It is also even better a no-churn ice recipe. Click on prescription Here.
Pichi-Pichi in the microwave: If you only have 12 minutes to make a dessert or a snack for a pot luck or a family grille, this is the recipe for you. In the microwave, coconut is cooked in intense, mild sweetness, tough maniok maniok morels and can be enjoyed for a hearty Merienda snack. Click on prescription Here.
